Two schoolchildren have reportedly been abducted by suspected kidnappers in Umuosu-Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State.
The incident was disclosed by journalist Emmanuel Nwazue of Afia TV, who shared details of the alleged abduction on his social media page.
According to Nwazue, the children were returning home from school when heavy rainfall forced them and four other pupils to seek shelter and transportation in a passing commercial tricycle (Keke), which already had two women on board.
Narrating the account reportedly given by one of the children who escaped, Nwazue said all six pupils boarded the tricycle. However, instead of stopping at their intended destination, the rider allegedly drove past the marketplace before bringing the vehicle to a halt, claiming he had run out of fuel.
The rider reportedly handed money to four of the children and instructed them to purchase fuel. By the time they returned, the tricycle had allegedly sped away with the remaining two children.
The whereabouts of the abducted children remain unknown as of the time of filing this report.
The incident has heightened concerns over the safety of schoolchildren in the area, with residents calling on security agencies to launch an immediate investigation and intensify efforts to rescue the victims and apprehend those responsible.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the reported abduction.
