Ahead of Saturday’s senatorial by-election in the Nasarawa North Senatorial District, the campaign organization of former Inspector-General of Police Abubakar Adamu has endorsed former Minister of Information Labaran Maku, the Labour Party candidate.
The endorsement was announced on Thursday by the Counter and Mobilization Committee of the Abubakar Adamu 2027 campaign organization during a meeting with Maku in Akwanga.
Speaking at the meeting, the committee chairman, Isa Nathaniel, said Maku emerged as the preferred candidate after consultations with stakeholders.
The senatorial seat became vacant following the death of Senator Godiya Akwashiki after a prolonged illness.
Nathaniel described Maku as the most qualified candidate for the position, citing his political experience and support across Akwanga, Wamba, and Nasarawa Eggon local government areas.
“Following an exhaustive, objective review of all the contenders in this race and after wide-ranging consultations with key stakeholders, the Counter and Mobilization Team of the Rtd IGP Adamu 2027 Movement has come to a definitive conclusion.
“We formally and unreservedly endorse His Excellency, Labaran Maku, as the most qualified, competent, and prepared candidate to carry this torch forward,” he said.
Nathaniel said the district required an experienced lawmaker capable of attracting development, adding that Maku’s experience in student unionism, state government and the federal government prepared him for the role.
He also called on supporters of the former police chief and residents of the district to vote for the Labour Party candidate in the June 20 by-election.
Also speaking, the member representing Nasarawa Eggon East Constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Jacob Kudu, described Maku as a credible and experienced leader.
“We will be doing ourselves a great disservice if we don’t vote for Maku as our senator in the by-election,” Kudu said.
Responding, Maku thanked the campaign organisation for the endorsement and pledged to provide effective representation if elected in Saturday’s poll.
