The Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Obi Aguocha, has attributed his emergence as the unopposed Labour Party candidate for the 2027 general election to what he described as a strong record of legislative performance, constituency representation and grassroots engagement.
Speaking during an interview on Family Love FM and ABN TV Open Parliament program, Aguocha said the overwhelming support he received during the Labour Party primary election was a clear endorsement of his stewardship over the last three years.
According to him, more than 77,000 party members participated in the affirmation process, a figure that exceeded the votes he secured during the 2023 general election.
The lawmaker noted that his constituents and party faithful evaluated his performance in the areas of lawmaking, oversight and representation and found him worthy of another mandate.
“If I had not done well in my legislative duties, representation and oversight functions, my party would not have returned me unopposed,” he said.
Aguocha praised Governor Alex Otti for what he described as visionary leadership and disclosed that the governor’s endorsement also boosted confidence among party members.
He maintained that the Labour Party primary was transparent, peaceful and devoid of controversy, unlike what he described as irregularities witnessed in some other political parties.
The federal lawmaker pledged to justify the renewed confidence reposed in him by continuing to pursue policies and projects aimed at improving the lives of the people of Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South.
