The Labour Party in Abia State has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of dragging Governor Alex Otti into what it described as the opposition party’s “internal political anxiety.”

The reaction followed a recent statement issued by the Abia APC through its Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, concerning the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu.

In a press release signed by the Abia State Labour Party Publicity Secretary, Iroegbu Emenike, the party described the APC’s comments as panic-driven and unnecessary, insisting that Governor Otti remains focused on governance rather than political speculations ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to the Labour Party, Governor Otti is concentrating on rebuilding infrastructure, repositioning the state’s economy, restoring confidence in public institutions, and improving the welfare of Abians.

The party stated that the governor is not concerned about whether Benjamin Kalu intends to contest the governorship in 2027 or return to the House of Representatives.

“Governor Alex Otti is far too focused on governance and improving the lives of Abians to spend valuable time discussing individuals who are yet to clearly define their political direction,” the statement read.

The Labour Party further alleged that the APC in Abia State has continued to mention Governor Otti in its political narratives because of what it described as the governor’s growing popularity and performance in office.

It maintained that Governor Otti’s achievements have become a benchmark for governance in the state, adding that his acceptance across Abia is based on visible performance, prudent leadership, and renewed hope among the people.

The party also advised the APC to concentrate on rebuilding its structure and presenting alternative policies to the people rather than engaging in what it termed political propaganda.

“Abians are politically conscious and can clearly distinguish between propaganda and performance,” the statement added.

The Labour Party reiterated its confidence in Governor Otti’s leadership and governance approach, insisting that the administration remains committed to delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Abia State.
