There are indications that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is favourably disposed to granting automatic Senate tickets to a select group of lawmakers ahead of the 2027 general elections, in recognition of their role in stabilising the National Assembly.
According to our correspondent, the development was hinted at by the Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, also known as Kauran Gwandu, while addressing political stakeholders in the state.
The governor was quoted as saying that the lawmakers being considered for continuity include Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara West), Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North), and Opeyemi Bamidele (Ekiti Central), among others.
Others listed are Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi North), Abdullahi Yahaya Abubakar (Kebbi North), Idiat Oluranti Adebule (Lagos West), Danjuma Goje (Gombe Central) and Adetokunbo Abiru (Lagos East).
Governor Idris noted that the senators have been instrumental in providing steady leadership within the Senate, fostering cooperation with the executive arm of government, and ensuring the smooth passage of key policies and reforms.
He emphasised that their contributions have significantly helped in stabilising the Senate and strengthening governance under the current administration.
While there has been no official confirmation from the Presidency or the ruling party’s national leadership, the development has sparked discussions across political circles.
