The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has welcomed the defection of Chief Frank Iheanyi Chinasa, popularly known as “Dogo,” to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a significant boost for the party in Abia State.
Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, said Chinasa’s decision to join the APC reflects growing confidence in the party’s strength and future prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Dogo contested the House of Representatives election with me in Bende and was later appointed by the governor as National Assembly Liaison Officer,” Kalu stated. “He is from Bende, precisely Ikwu Isii, my own section of the constituency, and today he has joined our party, the APC.”
Chinasa, a known ally of Abia State Governor Alex Otti, had served as National Assembly Liaison Officer before his defection, making his move one of the notable political shifts within the state’s evolving landscape.
Kalu expressed confidence that the new entrant would integrate seamlessly into the APC, citing the party’s growing base and the calibre of its members.
“I am confident he will feel at home seeing the calibre of men and women gathered here. I want to encourage everyone, especially aspirants, to remain strong-willed, courageous, and committed. The harder you work, the more people will be drawn to the APC,” he added.
Political observers say Chinasa’s defection signals ongoing realignments in Abia politics, as parties begin to reposition and consolidate ahead of the next electoral cycle.
