The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed that troops of Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled a coordinated attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military formation in Benisheikh, Borno State.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the DHQ disclosed that the attempted assault occurred at about 12:30 a.m., when insurgents tried to infiltrate the Headquarters of the 29 Task Force Brigade.
According to the military, troops responded swiftly with superior firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat and abandon their mission.

The Defence Headquarters described the attack as an indication of desperation by terrorist groups, attributing it to sustained military pressure and recent operational gains recorded by troops in the North-East region.
While confirming that some soldiers lost their lives during the encounter, the DHQ stated that the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has paid tribute to the fallen personnel and extended condolences to their families.
However, the military authority did not comment on reports alleging that a senior officer, Brigadier General O. O. Braimah, was among those killed in the attack.
The DHQ noted that further details would be made public after the families of the deceased personnel have been duly informed, urging Nigerians to disregard unverified reports and misinformation circulating on social media.
Meanwhile, troops have commenced clearance operations in the area to pursue fleeing insurgents and prevent any attempt at regrouping.
Reaffirming its commitment to the fight against terrorism, the military called on citizens to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information.
