A political realignment has unfolded in Kano State as eight lawmakers from the New Nigeria Peoples Party officially defected to the All Progressives Congress at the National Assembly in Abuja.
The development was confirmed in a statement by spokesperson Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, who said the lawmakers cited internal crises within the NNPP as their reason for leaving the party.
The defectors include Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, Garba Ibrahim Diso, Hassan Shehu Hussain, Idris Dankawu, Muhammad Chiroma Nalaraba, Rabiu Yusuf, Dr. Ghali Mustapha Tijjani, and Muhammad Bello Shehu.
The event was witnessed by prominent political figures, including former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf described the defections as part of the normal democratic process, stressing that political realignments are expected in a vibrant democracy.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to governance and service delivery, noting that his focus remains on delivering democratic dividends to the people of Kano State regardless of political affiliations.
The governor also called for unity and cooperation among elected representatives to support the state’s development agenda.
