The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, has ordered the immediate disbandment of all tactical teams in the state as part of sweeping reforms aimed at enhancing professionalism, accountability, and operational efficiency within the Nigeria Police Force.
The directive was issued during an emergency briefing held on March 18, 2026, with strategic officers of the Command, including Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Tactical Team Commanders, and Sectional Heads. The meeting followed a high-level engagement with the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu.
Addressing the officers, CP Isa reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to proactive policing and adherence to global best practices under the leadership of the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police.
As part of the new operational framework, the CP announced that all existing tactical teams have been disbanded, with new units—specifically Anti-Cultism and Anti-Kidnapping squads—to be established immediately. According to him, the restructuring is designed to ensure proper supervision, eliminate excesses, and promote orderliness within the system.
In a move to strengthen procedural discipline, the Police Commissioner warned against duplication and interference in ongoing investigations. He emphasized that cases being handled at the Divisional level must not be taken over by Area Commands unless expressly authorized. He added that Area Commanders are only permitted to request updates for supervisory purposes.
CP Isa also cautioned officers against violating the Presidential directive banning the deployment of police personnel to private individuals or VIPs, noting that any officer found culpable would face strict disciplinary action. He stressed the need for optimal deployment of officers within their jurisdictions to enhance security across the state.
On civil matters, particularly land disputes, the Commissioner directed officers to refrain from involvement, advising affected parties to seek redress through the courts. He further instructed that suspects involved in bailable offences must be granted bail promptly, in line with existing laws.
The CP commended the Commanders of the 28 Police Mobile Force (PMF), ACP Adesina Adeniran, and the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), CSP Chisom Ezebuiro, for the successful conduct of recent combat training, assuring that capacity-building initiatives would continue to improve operational readiness.
Also speaking, the newly deployed Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Ifeanyi A. Ohuruzo, highlighted observations from his initial assessment tour and called for heightened vigilance among officers.
In his closing remarks, CP Isa charged officers to remain disciplined, uphold professionalism, and align fully with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police. He urged them to sustain peace and security in Abia State while projecting a positive image of the Force.
