Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (Borno South) and Rt. Hon. Usman Zannah (Kaga, Magumeri, and Gubio Federal Constituency) on Thursday visited victims of the recent bomb explosions in Maiduguri who are receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) and other health facilities.
Last Monday, triple suicide bombers struck the Post Office, Monday Market general area, and the main UMTH gate, killing 23 people and injuring over 100 others in the metropolis.
Senator Ndume, who was performing the 2026 Lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia at the time, returned to Maiduguri and went directly to UMTH to console victims and their families. At the Trauma Centre, he visited multiple wards, engaging with patients and offering words of comfort during what he described as a “deeply painful moment” for the state.
Ndume urged the victims to remain steadfast and resilient, while extending condolences to bereaved families. He also provided financial support to assist with medical and related expenses.
Similarly, Rt. Hon. Usman Zannah, Chairman of the House Committee on North East Development Commission (NEDC), expressed shock over the incidents and prayed for the eternal rest of the deceased and a speedy recovery for the injured.
Zannah commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Senator Kashim Shettima, for visiting UMTH to sympathise with victims. He also praised the Borno State Government under Governor Babagana Zulum, as well as the management and staff of UMTH, the State Specialist Hospital, and Umaru Shehu UltraModern Hospital, for their efforts in treating victims.
He further acknowledged the contributions of rescue teams, including the military, police, and the Civilian Joint Task Force, in safeguarding lives during and after the blasts.
Zannah advised citizens to avoid crowded areas and report any suspicious activities to security agencies, particularly during the Ramadan and Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
