The Office of the Member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah, has responded to a recent press statement attributed to Mr. Damian Igbokwe, describing it as misleading and calling for calm amid the ongoing dispute over alleged mining activities in Imobi Autonomous Community, Uturu, Abia State.
In a statement issued by his media team, the lawmaker’s office clarified that its involvement in the matter followed a formal petition received on March 6, 2026, from the traditional ruler of the community, Eze Sir S. C. Chukwuemeka, who raised concerns over alleged intimidation, harassment, and attempts to take control of community land believed to be rich in mineral resources.
According to the statement, the petition urged the National Assembly, through Hon. Ogah, to intervene in the dispute and ensure that the rights and interests of the Imobi community are protected. The lawmaker’s office maintained that receiving and presenting such petitions is part of its constitutional responsibility to constituents.
The statement further alleged that tensions in the community had risen due to disagreements among stakeholders over the ownership and use of the land, warning that the situation could escalate if not properly managed.
While addressing claims reportedly made by Mr. Igbokwe, the office emphasized that Hon. Ogah acted strictly within the bounds of the law by presenting the petition before the House of Representatives for appropriate legislative consideration.
“The Honourable Member is under constitutional obligation to receive petitions from his constituents and present them without fear or favour. This action should not be misconstrued or politicized,” the statement noted.
The lawmaker’s office also called on residents of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi and the general public to remain peaceful and allow due process to take its course, stressing that relevant authorities are now expected to investigate the issues raised.
The development comes amid growing attention on mining activities and land ownership disputes in parts of Abia State, with stakeholders urging transparency, adherence to legal procedures, and protection of host communities.
Hon. Ogah’s office reaffirmed its commitment to fair representation, rule of law, and the protection of community interests, assuring constituents that it will continue to pursue lawful avenues to ensure justice and lasting peace.
