The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed Chief Donatus Nwankpa as its consensus candidate for the position of National Welfare Officer ahead of the party’s National Convention scheduled for March 27 and 28, 2026, in Abuja.
The decision was reached during an emergency meeting of the party’s State Working Committee (SWC) and the 17 Local Government Area Chairmen, held at the APC State Secretariat in Umuahia.
Party leaders said the endorsement followed extensive deliberations aimed at ensuring unity and presenting a common front for Abia State at the convention. They described Nwankpa as a loyal and committed party stalwart whose contributions have helped strengthen the APC in the state.
In the same meeting, the party reaffirmed the suspension of former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uche Ogah, over alleged anti-party activities.
The State Legal Adviser, Barr. Vigilus Nwankwo, stated that Ogah has remained under suspension since 2022, stressing that his status in the party remains unchanged.
He added that any recent public comments attributed to Ogah should not be interpreted as the position of a member of the APC, as he is currently not recognized by the party.
According to him, “Since the suspension remains in force, it would be unnecessary for the party to consider further disciplinary actions, as he is presently outside the fold of the party.”
The Abia APC leadership reiterated its commitment to discipline, unity, and loyalty, assuring members of its readiness to participate actively in the upcoming National Convention.
