“Govs’ Defections To APC For ‘Personal Survival’’ – Atiku

In a statement released on Friday by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku reacted to the defection of Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. He maintained that every politician has the right to choose a political platform of their choice.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain described the 2027 general election as a referendum on President Bola Tinubu and the APC.

He noted that political alignments and realignments are not unusual, stressing that even members of his family are free to hold independent political views.

According to Atiku, the growing number of opposition governors joining the APC does not reflect the strength of the ruling party but rather points to pressure and intimidation.

He accused Tinubu’s administration of using state institutions against political opponents in what he described as a bid to create a one-party state.

“This government fears accountability. It fears credible elections. It fears the people,” the statement reads.

“Governors may defect for personal survival. Nigerians are defecting in their millions because they want survival.”

He further questioned the APC’s prospects in the next election cycle, asking, “What will the APC campaign on in 2027 — hunger? hardship? hopelessness?”

Atiku warned that political cross-carpeting should not be mistaken for popularity and urged citizens not to sell their votes.

“Do not trade your future. Do not mortgage your children’s tomorrow. In 2027, the people will have their say—and their will shall prevail,” he said.
