The Nigeria Police Force has formally wrapped up the 15th Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA) tagged “Asaba 2026,” at the iconic Stephen Keshi Stadium, marking the end of a week-long display of athletic excellence, institutional unity, and professional discipline.
Speaking at the colourful closing ceremony, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD., NPM, described the tournament as a defining moment for the Force, noting that beyond competition, the Games showcased character, resilience, and a shared sense of purpose among officers.
According to the IGP, what began as a convergence of Commands and Formations evolved into a powerful demonstration of cohesion and teamwork. He stressed that the theme of the Games, “Beyond the Badge: Excellence in Action,” was evident in the discipline, sportsmanship, and mutual respect displayed by participants throughout the tournament.
Egbetokun further emphasised that the physical discipline fostered through sports translates directly into operational readiness and improved service delivery, reinforcing the Force’s commitment to professionalism in policing duties nationwide.
Declaring the Games closed, the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Monday John Onyeme, FCA, PhD, commended the Nigeria Police Force for exemplifying discipline, dignity, and dedication beyond the badge. He reaffirmed Delta State Government’s support for sports development as a unifying platform for youth empowerment and national progress.
The closing ceremony featured thrilling football finals, a frisbee demonstration, tug-of-war contests, 4×100 relay races, and invitational events involving sister security agencies. The celebration culminated in a vibrant closing concert.
At the end of the Games, Force Headquarters emerged overall champions, topping the medal table, while Zone 2 Lagos secured second position and Zone 9 finished third.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its resolve to carry forward the unity, discipline, and resilience displayed during BIPOGA Asaba 2026 into its policing responsibilities across the country.
