The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the suspension of its planned state, local government, and ward congresses in Abia State.
The decision was conveyed in a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda.
According to the statement, the suspension became necessary due to ongoing consultations within the party and the need to conclude certain preparatory and administrative processes ahead of the exercise.
The APC leadership explained that the move is aimed at ensuring that the congresses, when conducted, will be orderly, transparent, and credible.
Prof. Yilwatda assured party members and stakeholders that a new timetable for the congresses would be communicated in due course. He further disclosed that the revised schedule of activities would be formally transmitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in line with statutory requirements.
The suspension is expected to give the party adequate time to streamline internal processes and foster consensus among stakeholders in Abia State before proceeding with the congresses.
