Abia Govt Pays Adjusted Minimum Wage to SEMB Staff, Teachers — Governor’s Aide

The Abia State Government has paid the consequential adjusted minimum wage to staff of the State Education Management Board (SEMB) and teachers, with the implementation reflected in their January 2026 salaries, ABN TV reports.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Basic and Secondary Education, Kenechukwu Nwosu, disclosed this in an update made available to the public on Sunday, noting that the payment forms part of ongoing efforts by the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti to improve the welfare of education workers in the state.

Nwosu further revealed that the government is making steady progress on the processing of leave allowances for SEMB staff and teachers, as well as arrangements for payment to teachers whose services were previously extended for five years but later discontinued due to system-related issues.

He expressed appreciation to Governor Otti for prioritising the education sector and demonstrating commitment to the wellbeing of teachers and other personnel within the system.
