The Abia State Police Command has dismissed reports of a bomb or explosive recovery in Aba, describing the claims as unfounded.
In a clarification issued on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 and made available to ABN TV, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, stated that thorough investigations conducted through the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) covering the area confirmed that no bomb or explosive device was recovered at the location.
According to the police, the incident stemmed from a dispute over a road reconstruction project being carried out by the state government. The church in question was said to have encroached on the road alignment and was directed to move back slightly to create space for the project.
The statement explained that the directive was not initially complied with, prompting the military to intervene to ensure compliance. During the process, an iron rod, described as part of a pillar of the church structure being adjusted, was removed by the military.
“There was nothing resembling a bomb or explosive recovered anywhere in Aba,” the police emphasized.
The Command reassured residents that the Nigeria Police, as the lead internal security agency, remains vigilant in the protection of lives and property across the state.
DSP Chinaka added that officers of the Command are active, alert, and strategically deployed throughout Abia State to maintain safety and public order.
The clarification was issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, as the police urged members of the public to remain calm and rely on verified information from official sources.
