The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, with 71.63 per cent of candidates achieving five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.
NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, announced the results during a news conference on Wednesday at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
He stated that the examination was held between November 26 and December 13, 2025, while the marking exercise took place from January 5 to 21, 2026. The results were released 52 days after the final paper.
According to Wushishi, 96,979 candidates registered for the examination—comprising 51,823 males (53.43%) and 45,156 females (46.56%). Out of these, 95,160 candidates sat for the exams, including 50,785 males and 44,375 females.
In subject performance, 73,167 candidates (78.32%) out of 93,425 who sat for English Language obtained credit and above, while 85,256 candidates (91.35%) out of 93,330 who sat for Mathematics also earned credit and above.
He added that 68,166 candidates (71.63%) obtained five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, while 82,082 candidates (86.26%) earned five credits and above regardless of the two core subjects.
Wushishi noted that the SSCE External offers a second chance for candidates seeking university or tertiary admission both locally and abroad. He described the timely release of results as another achievement in NECO’s drive to uphold credible examinations.
However, he disclosed an increase in examination malpractice, with 9,016 candidates booked for various offences — a 31.7 per cent rise from 6,160 cases recorded in 2024.
Additionally, five supervisors were recommended for blacklisting over their involvement in malpractice — two from the FCT and one each from Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo states. Four examination centres, two in Niger and one each in Yobe and Kano, were also recommended for derecognition due to whole-centre malpractice.
The registrar advised candidates to check their results online at www.neco.gov.ng using their registration numbers.
Wushishi also announced the introduction of the 2026 Automated Staff Posting Calendar (APC), which will randomize staff assignments. Staff members can now check their posting details via https://apcic.neco.gov.ng/myapc using their date of birth and file number (without the prefix “P”).
