The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has suspended the selection of examination towns for candidates registering for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Ekiti State.
The board announced the decision in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja by its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin.
According to Benjamin, the temporary suspension aims to allow JAMB to restructure examination towns across the state to ensure closer proximity to candidates and reduce transportation difficulties on exam days.
He explained that although candidates usually choose examination towns nearest to their locations, the ongoing 2026 UTME registration began before the board detected some structural anomalies in the configuration of Ekiti’s exam towns.
The spokesperson said the irregularities required urgent adjustments in the interest of candidates, leading to the suspension of town selection in the state until the restructuring is completed.
“Candidates will not be able to select any examination town in Ekiti while the review process is ongoing,” Benjamin said, adding that the process would be completed shortly.
He apologised for any inconvenience the development might cause candidates during registration and reaffirmed JAMB’s commitment to improving its processes to ensure fairness and respect for all candidates.
