The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered several stolen vehicles in an intelligence-led operation conducted across Ibadan.
The suspects, identified as 48-year-old David Okhaie and 43-year-old Balogun Afolabi, were apprehended by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit following credible intelligence that prompted an intensive manhunt.
Investigations revealed that both men were dismissed corporals of the Nigerian Army who allegedly posed as serving soldiers to carry out armed robberies, targeting unsuspecting motorists.
According to the police, the suspects specialized in dispossessing victims of their vehicles at gunpoint, instilling fear and disrupting peace in parts of the state.
Recovered items from the operation include a black Toyota Camry (KRD 253 KC), a metallic Toyota Corolla (JTA 938 AA), a silver Lexus RX 350 (unregistered), and a black Super Cargo motorcycle (YRE 487 VD).
The Command urged members of the public who may have lost vehicles matching the recovered items to report to the police with valid proof of ownership for verification and possible recovery.
Reacting to the arrest, Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, commended the operatives involved and reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating crime and ensuring public safety across the state.
