Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has clarified his earlier call for Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the invitation is no longer on the table.

Kalu made the clarification during a media interaction with journalists at his country home, explaining that the earlier call was a friendly political gesture, not a formal demand.

I encouraged him to join because he was one of us, and I believed his entry would open more doors for Abia State. But that time has passed. I am no longer making that call,” Kalu said.

He added that as a party leader, he respects the governor’s decision to chart his own political path, noting that every politician understands what is best for his or her political future.

Kalu further explained that within the APC’s national framework, any sitting governor who joins the party is allowed to take charge of the party structure in the state, in line with established party policy.

He emphasized that the APC remains positioned to present a governorship candidate for Abia State in future elections, describing this as a natural process in party politics.
