The Afugiri Traditional Council, led by His Royal Highness, Eze Chionye Ngwuli, alongside His Royal Majesty, Eze Sir Chijioke Chikwekwem, and His Royal Majesty, Eze Onyebuchi Onuoha, on Wednesday, January 22, 2026, formally inaugurated Elder Nkem Utah as the Interim President-General (PG) of Afugiri.
The inauguration ceremony, which took place in Afugiri Ohuhu, Umuahia North LGA of Abia State, marked a significant step in the community’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its leadership structure and promote unity, development, and good governance within the clan.

Speaking during the event, the traditional rulers charged the newly inaugurated interim leadership to uphold the values of peace, inclusiveness, and service to the people. They emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in fostering sustainable development and maintaining harmony across Afugiri communities.
Elder Nkem Utah, in his acceptance remarks, expressed gratitude to the traditional council and the people of Afugiri for the confidence reposed in him and the newly appointed executive officers. He pledged to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to advance the interests of the community, promote transparency, and lay a strong foundation for a smooth transition to a substantive leadership.
The event was attended by community leaders, elders, youth representatives, and other stakeholders, who commended the traditional council for its role in ensuring continuity and stability in Afugiri’s administrative affairs.
The inauguration of the interim executives is expected to usher in a renewed focus on community development, conflict resolution, and the strengthening of traditional and civic institutions across Afugiri.
