The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has reportedly affirmed the removal of Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the Senator Nenadi Usman-led National Caretaker Committee as the party’s lawful leadership.
The development was disclosed on Wednesday by human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, who said he was present in court when the judgment was delivered in a related case.
According to Effiong, Justice Lifu, while delivering the ruling, upheld the Nenadi Usman-led committee as the only valid and lawful leadership of the Labour Party, reaffirming that Julius Abure’s tenure had elapsed in line with an earlier judgment of the Supreme Court.
The court, he added, consequently ordered INEC to immediately recognize Senator Nenadi Usman as the leader of the party.
Effiong wrote in a post on X: “I am currently before the Federal High Court in Abuja for a case. I listened to judgment delivered in another case.
“Honourable Justice Lifu has just upheld Senator Nenadi Esther Usman-led National Caretaker Committee as the only valid and lawful leadership of the Labour Party.
“The Judge reaffirmed that by the Supreme Court’s judgment, Julius Abure’s tenure had since elapsed.
“The Judge ordered INEC to recognize Nenadi Usman forthwith.”
The ruling is expected to have significant implications for the internal leadership structure of the Labour Party, particularly as the party prepares for upcoming political activities and engagements nationwide.
