Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains politically strong in Abia State, dismissing suggestions that another party could take control of the state due to internal disagreements within the ruling party.
Speaking at a recent political gathering, the former Abia State governor described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a committed democrat who, he said, must allow the democratic process to run its course. Kalu noted that he supports the President’s approach to handling political competition and party affairs.
The senator also took aim at the administration of Governor Alex Otti, alleging that the Labour Party-led government lacks a solid grassroots political network. According to Kalu, the APC maintains a stronger presence “on the ground” across communities in the state.
He further criticized some of the governor’s appointees, claiming that certain commissioners are unfamiliar with their political environments, including their polling units, a remark that questioned the depth of the administration’s local political engagement.
In a related development, Kalu accused Governor Otti of allowing his aide to verbally attack and insult him, despite what he described as his efforts to maintain a cordial relationship with the governor.
The comments reflect rising political tension in Abia State as major political actors and parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
