Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, on Saturday joined members of the Abia State Executive Council and other top government officials at the burial ceremony of late Dame Peace Onyekwuleche Igbokwe, mother of the Chief Executive Officer of DON Media Group, Lucky Igbokwe (popularly known as DON Lulu).
The burial service was held at Wesley Methodist Church, where Governor Otti delivered a heartfelt message of consolation to the Igbokwe family, urging them to draw strength from their Christian faith and not to grieve like unbelievers.
Speaking during the service, the Governor expressed confidence that the late matriarch, having lived a committed Christian life, had returned to her Maker and would be reunited with her loved ones on the resurrection morning.
“As you mourn, do not mourn like unbelievers, because she certainly knows she has reached heaven. As Christians, we believe that the soul would have gone back to the Maker,” Governor Otti said.
He assured the bereaved family of the Christian hope of resurrection, noting that death is only a temporary separation for believers.
“On that resurrection morning, when we shall meet to part no more, she will be among us. We will rise and meet her again,” he added.
Governor Otti also thanked God for the life of the late Dame Peace Igbokwe, describing her as a woman of substance who made remarkable impact within a short time on earth.
“It is often said that it is not necessarily the years in our life, but the life in our years. It is not about how long, but how well. If you read her biography, you will agree with me that she lived ahead of her time and produced wonderful children,” the Governor stated.
Among dignitaries who accompanied the Governor to the funeral service were the National Secretary of the Labour Party, Darlington Nwokocha; the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Obi Aguocha; members of the Abia State House of Assembly; and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Caleb Ajagba, among other senior government officials.
The funeral service drew family members, friends, associates, and well-wishers from across the state and beyond, who gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of the late Dame Peace Onyekwuleche Igbokwe.
