A group within the Peoples Democratic Party, the PDP Advocates for Peace and Justice, has criticised the Akwa Ibom State Government’s N31.6bn allocation to the education sector in its 2026 budget, describing it as a mockery of its much-advertised ARISE Agenda.
It also called on the House of Assembly to review the budget and increase the allocation to the sector in line with national realities and international best practices.
According to a report published by The PUNCH newspaper on December 26, 2025, Akwa Ibom State allocated only N31.6bn, representing a paltry 2.27 per cent of its N1.39tn 2026 budget, to education.
The group, in a statement issued by its chairman, Dr Tom FredFish, and secretary, Mr Savour Uko, in Uyo on Saturday, condemned the poor allocation to the sector, which it noted falls short of UNESCO recommendations.
