Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has directed that all outstanding salaries owed to newly recruited teachers in the state be paid before Sunday night.
The Governor made the statement on Friday, November 28, 2025, during the November edition of Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians, a monthly interactive session aimed at updating citizens on government activities and addressing public concerns.
The newly employed teachers, recruited earlier this year, are currently owed three months’ salaries — a situation that has generated concern among education stakeholders and the affected staff.
While acknowledging the delay, Governor Otti assured that the matter has now been resolved and payment will commence immediately.
“Before Sunday night, all the newly recruited teachers’ outstanding salaries will drop,” Governor Otti stated.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising education and ensuring that teachers are treated with dignity, adequate welfare, and prompt salary payment.
Many of the affected teachers have expressed relief following the announcement, describing it as a welcome development that will boost morale as they continue to contribute to improving teaching standards across the state.
The expected payment marks another move in the government’s ongoing education reform agenda, which seeks to strengthen manpower, improve learning environments, and restore confidence in the public school system.
