The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Labour Party–led government in the state to emulate the Federal Government’s recent move toward full transparency in the publication of project costs and contract details.
The demand was contained in a statement issued in Umuahia by the Acting Publicity Secretary of the party, Prince Ifeanyi Igwe, Esq. He applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for publishing the contract amounts, specifications, and scope of ongoing and newly approved federal projects across the country.
According to Igwe, the publication of these figures demonstrates a commitment to accountability and public trust, noting that the Federal Executive Council’s approvals of November 6, 2025, reflect a governance culture that prioritizes openness.
He cited major highlighted projects including the 163-kilometre Sokoto–Badagry Coastal Superhighway Section 3 valued at ₦553 billion, the Ota–Idiroko road and flyover project estimated at ₦121 billion, and the revised cost of the 37-kilometre Ijebu Igbo–Etapa–Owoyen Road pegged at ₦53 billion, among several others spanning Lagos, Ogun, Kwara, Kaduna, Enugu, and Rivers States.
Igwe stated that by making contract values and details public, the Federal Government has strengthened public confidence and demonstrated that governance must remain accountable to the people.
“This level of transparency is what Abians expect from their government. We urge the state administration to follow this exemplary model so that citizens can clearly see what projects are awarded, at what cost, and to which contractors,” he added.
The APC spokesman argued that with billions being spent on development projects in Abia, the public deserves full disclosure to ensure funds are judiciously utilized and free from mismanagement.
He maintained that transparency remains a core pillar of democratic governance, urging the state government to adopt the same openness if it claims to be working in the interest of the people.
