Nnamdi Kanu Writes Trump Ahead Of Court Hearing, Alleges “Hidden Genocide” In Eastern Nigeria [Documents Attached]

As his terrorism trial resumes on Friday, November 7, 2025, detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has written a detailed and emotionally charged letter to U.S. President Donald J. Trump, calling for urgent American and international intervention to stop what he described as an ongoing “hidden genocide against Judeo-Christians in Eastern Nigeria.”

The 4-page letter, dated November 6, 2025, and signed by Kanu from the Department of State Services (DSS) Headquarters, Abuja, was delivered through the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria. It was issued by his special counsel, Aloy Ejimakor of ALO Ejimakor Legal Services, and addressed to Trump at The White House, Washington DC, attaching seven documentary annexures to support his claims.

In the letter, Kanu commended Trump for his recent declaration on October 31, 2025, warning that the United States would “act militarily” if Nigeria fails to protect its Christian population. He told the former U.S. President that his words have rekindled hope among millions of persecuted Christians in Nigeria.

He alleged that the Nigerian military and security agencies have been complicit in state-sponsored massacres against Christian communities across the South-East, under the guise of counter-terrorism operations.

“Christians in Nigeria face an existential threat,” Kanu wrote. “This genocide is not confined to the North—it has metastasized into the Igbo heartland, where Judeo-Christians are being systematically exterminated under the guise of counter-terrorism.”

Kanu’s letter referenced several massacres allegedly committed against unarmed civilians, including:

1. Nkpor Biafra Heroes Day Massacre (May 30, 2016)
2. National High School Aba Massacre (February 9, 2016)
3. Operation Python Dance II (September 2017)
4. Obigbo Massacre (October 2020)
5. Port Harcourt Trump Solidarity Rally Killings (January 20, 2017)

He cited reports from Amnesty International, UN Special Rapporteur Agnès Callamard, and Intersociety, which documented killings, unlawful detentions, and enforced disappearances.

Kanu directly accused the Nigerian state of “weaponizing insecurity to demonize IPOB” and blamed former Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, now Nigeria’s Ambassador to Benin Republic, as the “architect” of many of the atrocities.

In his passionate appeal, Kanu urged President Trump to take four urgent steps:

1. Launch a U.S.-led independent inquiry into the alleged massacres of Judeo-Christians in Eastern Nigeria.
2. Convene emergency Congressional hearings on the Igbo Christian genocide.
3. Impose targeted sanctions under the Global Magnitsky Act on top Nigerian officials implicated in human rights abuses, including Lt. Gen. Buratai, DSS Director-General Yusuf Bichi, and South-East military commanders.
4. Support an internationally-supervised referendum on self-determination for the Igbo people, describing it as “the only peaceful path to ending the cycle of violence.”

Concluding the letter, Kanu said history will judge world leaders by how they respond when genocide knocks.

“Mr. President, history will judge us by what we do when genocide knocks. You have the power to stop a second Rwanda in Africa. One tweet, one sanction, one inquiry could save millions.”

He reaffirmed his commitment to non-violence, saying IPOB seeks only “justice, truth, and freedom.”

The seven annexures accompanying the letter include:

Friday’s court hearing in Abuja is expected to determine whether Kanu will finally be allowed to defend himself or risk forfeiting his right to do so in the terrorism case filed by the Federal Government.

Observers believe the timing of his letter to Trump, just a day before the hearing, signals a strategic move to internationalize his case and attract global attention to the alleged human rights violations in Nigeria’s South-East.
