Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has said that Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, needs little stress or campaign to win the June 20, 2026, governorship election, given his outstanding performance in office over the past three years.
Okpebholo stated this on Wednesday in Ikere Ekiti, while inaugurating the Ikere–Igbara Odo Road and a farm dormitory constructed by the Oyebanji administration, as part of activities marking the governor’s third anniversary in office.
Okpebholo had, on Tuesday evening, accompanied Oyebanji on an inspection tour of ongoing projects in the state, including the Okeyinmi flyover and the 80-bed multi-purpose medical building under construction at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital.
He said he was impressed by the scope of work done and the overwhelming support Oyebanji enjoyed from the people.
Okpebholo said, “Mr Governor, my dear good brother and friend, I want to tell you confidently that you have done well. I came into Ekiti and started hearing BAO everywhere, and this showed that Ekiti people really appreciate your efforts in three years.
“When I was addressing my people in Edo State, I said I promised President Bola Tinubu 2.5 million votes for the 2027 presidential election. With what I have seen in Ekiti, Governor Oyebanji may likely surpass that record.
“I drove on the flyover you are building in just three years, and I came to the conclusion that you don’t need to campaign much or stress yourself in Ekiti to win the coming governorship election.
“I congratulate you and all Ekiti people for what you have been able to achieve for them in three years,” Okpebholo said.
Oyebanji, in his remarks, said the road and agricultural projects were strategic to the state’s economic survival, noting that they would expose Ekiti to greater opportunities by unlocking its food production capacity.
He added that the upgraded road would help address previous security challenges along the route and transform the corridor into a viable economic hub.
“We promise you that we will continue to serve you well,” the governor assured the people.
Oyebanji also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his support and “courageous economic decisions that freed money into the states,” saying the benefits were already evident in improved infrastructure and better living conditions for Nigerians.
The Ogoga of Ikere Ekiti and Chairman of the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, Oba Adejimi Adu-Alagbado, commended Oyebanji for completing the project swiftly.
The monarch said the passion displayed by the governor in executing projects had earned him wide applause and was driving industrial growth, transforming Ekiti’s economy and reputation.
