Forgery Scandal Hits Tinubu’s Cabinet As Court Grants Hon. Ogah Leave To Pursue Case Against Minister [Documents Attached]

A new controversy has emerged within President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet as the Federal High Court, Abuja, has granted leave to Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah, the Member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, to apply for an order compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate and possibly prosecute the Minister of State for Labour and Employment over alleged forgery of election documents used during the 2023 House of Representatives elections.

In its ruling, the court acknowledged that Hon. Ogah’s request fell within INEC’s constitutional powers to investigate and prosecute electoral offences, including allegations of document falsification. The leave granted gives the lawmaker the legal right to pursue the matter formally before the electoral body.

Hon. Ogah, who is also the Chairman, House Committee on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria Control, had approached the court seeking a judicial directive on the alleged forgery of results, claiming it undermined the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral system.

In his reaction to the ruling, Hon. Ogah described the court’s decision as a victory for due process and electoral transparency, stressing that his intention was not political but aimed at upholding the sanctity of Nigeria’s democracy.

“This case is about truth, justice, and respect for the rule of law. Our democracy must be built on integrity and accountability, not manipulation. I believe the right institutions must be allowed to do their job,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Labour, who was mentioned in the application, is yet to issue an official response to the allegations. Sources close to the Ministry described the claims as politically motivated and expressed confidence that the truth would prevail once INEC completes its investigation.

Political observers say the development could heighten scrutiny on electoral accountability within government circles, especially as President Tinubu’s administration continues to face demands for transparency and integrity in public service.

The court’s decision marks only the beginning of a potential legal process, as INEC is now expected to review the allegations and determine whether there is sufficient evidence to warrant prosecution.
