Governor Mbah Dumps PDP, Joins APC — Says Decision Guided By Fairness, Regional Interest

The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the need to align the state’s development vision with the Federal Government’s reform agenda.

Speaking at a well-attended event themed “Charting a New Course: Transition from PDP to APC,” the Governor said the decision followed months of reflection, consultations, and soul-searching, stressing that leadership often demands difficult but necessary choices.

“Today, I stand before you to announce a break from the past and to share a decision that will shape the road ahead,” he said. “After long reflection, we have made the decision to leave the PDP and join the APC.”

The Governor explained that his transition was not born out of resentment but of conviction that fairness, partnership, and transparency must define the next chapter of Enugu’s political evolution.

“For decades, the South East—especially Enugu—stood firmly behind the PDP, yet our voices were often disregarded when it mattered most. It has therefore become necessary to seek affiliation where our interests as a region are respected,” he stated.

The defection, according to him, is a collective movement by the entire political structure in Enugu, including members of the National Assembly, State Assembly, local government chairmen, councillors, and more than 80% of party executives.
