The Abia State Labour Party (LP) Caucus in the House of Representatives has lashed out at the Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, accusing him of arrogance, recklessness, and attempts to incite political tension in the state through what it described as “unguarded and inflammatory” statements.
In a statement signed by members of the caucus and made available to newsmen on Tuesday, the lawmakers expressed dismay over Kalu’s recent comments and political conduct, which they said were unbecoming of a public official occupying such a high national position.
According to the caucus, Hon. Kalu’s repeated boast that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would “capture Abia State” in 2027, while flaunting his “number six” position in national hierarchy, shows “a disturbing level of arrogance and insensitivity.”
The statement reads in part:
“Such careless talk, repeated shortly after assuming office as Deputy Speaker, was not only unintelligent and insensitive but also unbecoming of a public officer who ought to embody humility and emotional intelligence.”
The lawmakers further accused the Deputy Speaker of working deliberately to incite the Federal Government and the ruling APC against the Abia State Government, saying his comments are part of a calculated attempt to discredit the administration of Governor Alex Otti.
