Court Adjourns Kanu’s Case To October 16 After NMA Fails To File Health Assessment

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has refused to grant bail to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to enable him seek medical attention.

The decision followed the failure of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to submit a medical report as directed by the court during the last adjourned sitting.

According to the court, the NMA was expected to file a comprehensive report advising on Kanu’s health condition — specifically whether he is fit to continue standing trial in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) or should be transferred to a medical facility for treatment.

However, due to the NMA’s non-compliance, the presiding judge declined the bail application and adjourned the case to October 16, 2025, for further proceedings.

Kanu, who has been in DSS custody since 2021, faces charges bordering on terrorism and treasonable felony. His continued detention has sparked widespread appeals from regional leaders, rights groups, and international observers calling for his release on health and humanitarian grounds.
