Lagos NURTW Boss “Shameleon” Arrested Over Brutal Assaults And Suspected Murder

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 55-year-old National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) leader, Shamsideen Oladiti, popularly known as Shameleon, over allegations of violent assault and murder.

Police confirmed that Oladiti is being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti-Yaba, where investigations into two separate cases are ongoing.

On September 17, 2025, around 3:00 p.m., the suspect allegedly attacked a dispatch rider on Lagos Island, beating him with a helmet and his fists. The victim, rushed to hospital with severe injuries, is currently on oxygen.

Authorities also revealed a prior case involving Oladiti on August 28, 2025, when he allegedly struck another man multiple times with a metallic ring during an altercation. Despite receiving medical care, the victim died on September 17, and his remains have been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.

News of the man’s death sparked protests at Oladiti’s office in Sandgrouse Market, Lagos Island, where angry sympathisers of the deceased set two of his motorcycles ablaze, creating tension in the area.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, personally led officers and tactical squads to restore order, assuring residents that Oladiti remains in custody and will face prosecution once investigations are concluded.

State Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, clarified that the dispatch rider attacked this week is still alive, contrary to circulating rumours of his death.

She said: “We have confirmed from the family that he is still alive, though on oxygen. The victim who died on September 17 was the one attacked by Oladiti on August 28.”
