President Bola Tinubu has announced the suspension of the state of emergency imposed on Rivers State, directing Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to resume their official duties.
In a statement released by the Presidency on Wednesday, Tinubu declared that the emergency rule would end at midnight, paving the way for the full restoration of democratic governance in the oil-rich state.
“It therefore gives me great pleasure to declare that the emergency in Rivers State of Nigeria shall end with effect from midnight today,” the President stated.
He further directed that Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Odu, and Speaker Martins Amaewhule, alongside other lawmakers, resume their work from Thursday, September 18, 2025.
The decision marks a major turning point in Rivers State’s political crisis, which led to the imposition of emergency rule earlier in the year.
