Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has announced plans to build a new airport in Ndikelionwu, Orumba North Local Government Area, as part of his vision to transform the state into a smart mega city.

Aerotropolis Project to Drive Economic Growth

During a site inspection, Mr. Martins Nwafor, Managing Director of Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport, Umueri, and Chairman of the Airport and Aerotropolis Committee, said the visit was to identify a suitable location for the proposed airport and industrial park. He described the project as a “game-changer” that could open vast economic opportunities.

Integrated Development for Investment Attraction

Nwafor explained that combining aviation infrastructure with commercial, residential, and logistics facilities would create a vibrant airport-driven city, attract investors, and fast-track Anambra’s industrialization. He added that establishing multiple airports would further accelerate the state’s economic expansion.

Host Community Pledges Full Support

Hon. Fabian Nwosu, former President-General of the Ndikelionwu Welfare Association, and Hon. Ifesinachi Chukwurah Onwurah, the association’s Vice President, expressed appreciation to the state government for choosing their community. They pledged cooperation, security, and support to ensure the project’s success.

Dignitaries, Experts Join Site Tour

Those present at the inspection included Prof. Charles O. Ofoegbu, MD/CEO of Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited; Retired Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security; Architect Chukwudi Ezenwa, founder of Sliding Towers; as well as community leaders and elders.

Geologists and geophysicists from the Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company also participated, conducting mapping and assessments to confirm the site’s suitability.
