The Abia State Police Command has announced a major restructuring of its tactical operations with the disbandment of the Quick Intervention Unit (QIU) over cases of unprofessional misconduct.
Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, made the disclosure in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the move aligns with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to build a professionally competent, service-driven, rule-of-law compliant, and people-friendly police force.
To fill the gap, the Command has established a new tactical formation named the Strike Force, which will serve as an intervention team against crime across the state. The unit will be commanded by DSP Eze Augustine Eke and will consist of highly trained, disciplined, and combat-ready officers strategically deployed to boost operational efficiency.
CP Isa charged members of the Strike Force to maintain professionalism, remain disciplined, and ensure strict adherence to the rule of law in the discharge of their duties. He emphasized the Command’s unwavering commitment to upholding its constitutional mandate in line with the IGP’s vision.
The Police Commissioner also urged residents of Abia State to support the Command’s efforts by promptly reporting any misconduct by officers to the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) of the Abia State Police Command via 09031593827 and 09035401645.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen C. Chinaka, signed the statement on behalf of the Commissioner, with the assurance: “CRU Abia State Police Command says No to Impunity.”
