Veteran Actress Joke Silva Mourns Brother’s Passing

Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has announced the passing of her elder brother, John Olabiyi Silva, who died on August 29, 2025, at the age of 72.

Sharing the sad news on her Instagram page Thursday, Silva wrote:
“With acceptance of God’s Sovereign will, we announce the call to glory of my dear brother, John Olabiyi Silva…long John Silva…Bros B…Uncle B…my easy-go-lucky brother. Rest in peace. January 22, 1953 – August 29, 2025.”

The announcement comes as the actress continues to care for her husband, veteran actor Olu Jacobs, who has been battling dementia in recent years.

Tributes have since poured in from colleagues and fans. Actress Hilda Dokubo offered prayers, writing, “May his soul rest in the Lord,” while comedienne and actress Chigul expressed her sympathy: “I am so sorry Aunty…so very sorry.”

Though not a public figure, John Silva was cherished by family and friends, who fondly referred to him as “Long John Silva,” “Bros B,” and “Uncle B.” He is remembered for his easygoing nature and strong family bonds.
