Ndi Igbo In Ghana Celebrate 13th Coronation Anniversary Of Eze Dr. Chukwudi Ihenetu

The Obiukwu Obieziokwu Palace in Ghana was a vibrant centre of cultural celebration on Saturday, August 30, 2025, as Ndi Igbo in Ghana converged to mark the 13th coronation anniversary of His Majesty, Eze (Amb.) Dr. Chukwudi Ihenetu, Eze Ohazurume, the Paramount King of Ndigbo in Ghana.

The grand event, filled with colour, music, and rich cultural displays, brought together Igbo sons and daughters, traditional rulers, and friends of the Igbo nation in Ghana to honour a reign that has spanned over a decade of service, resilience, and cultural preservation.

In a heartfelt reflection shared from his throne, Eze Ihenetu described his 13-year journey as one marked by challenges, sacrifices, and triumphs, but ultimately a testimony of the strength of Igbo culture and identity abroad.

“In 2012, my people chose me to serve them, to be their voice and shield, and to carry the sacred responsibility of leading the Igbo community here in Ghana. Thirteen years have gone by, yet when I look back, it feels as though it all happened only yesterday. The calling has remained the same: to serve with honor, represent with dignity, and lead with a heart that listens,” he said.

The monarch noted that under his leadership, Igbo culture has gained global visibility, with the Igbo New Yam Festival and Igbo Day in Ghana attracting thousands of participants from diverse nationalities who come to experience the richness of African traditions through the Igbo lens.

Eze Ihenetu expressed gratitude to the Igbo community in Ghana for their trust and loyalty, as well as to Igbo leaders across Nigeria and the diaspora for their counsel and encouragement. He also paid glowing tribute to Ghanaian traditional leaders for their tolerance and hospitality, and extended appreciation to the Ghanaian government for fostering peace and understanding between Ghanaians and the Igbo community.

“Being Eze Igbo Ghana is not simply about holding a title. It is about carrying people in your heart, protecting their interests, and ensuring that no Igbo child, man, or woman ever feels forgotten in this land. It is about bridging nations and creating unity where there is division,” the monarch emphasized.

He further acknowledged his family and close associates for their unwavering support, noting that their sacrifices and prayers have strengthened him throughout his reign.

Looking ahead, Eze Ihenetu assured that the next phase of his leadership would focus on deepening unity, creating more opportunities for Igbo youths in Ghana, and sustaining the bonds of friendship between Nigeria and Ghana.

“Thirteen years have come and gone, but the story is not over. The future holds greater unity, deeper cooperation, and stronger bonds between our people and our host nation. As I look forward, I remain committed to serving with humility, wisdom, and courage,” he concluded.

The 13th coronation anniversary underscored the enduring resilience of the Igbo people in the diaspora and reaffirmed Eze Ihenetu’s role as a cultural bridge-builder, uniting communities through heritage, dialogue, and service to humanity.
