The Abia State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its fight against crime following the arrest of three suspected armed robbers and cultists during a stop-and-search operation in Umuagu, Abia State.
The suspects, identified as Udaka Justin (36), of Akata Village, Orlu East LGA, Imo State; Chukwuebuka Michael Nnebedun (24), of Arondizuagu, Ideato North LGA, Imo State; and Prince David (24), also of Arondizuagu, Ideato North LGA, were intercepted on August 23, 2025, around 9:30 p.m. by operatives of the Quick Intervention Unit (QIU).
According to the Command, operatives flagged down a blue autorickshaw (keke napep) with registration number MBL801VJ, carrying five occupants. On stopping the tricycle, the rider pretended it had developed a fault, giving two of the passengers an opportunity to escape. However, the remaining three were swiftly apprehended.
Upon searching the suspects, police recovered:
1) One locally made short pistol
2) Three live cartridges
3) One double-edged machete
4) One battle axe
5) One black face mask
6) One sachet of substances suspected to be Indian hemp
7) The autorickshaw used by the suspects
Police spokesperson, DSP Maureen C. Chinaka, confirmed that the suspects are now in custody alongside the recovered exhibits, while investigations continue to track down the fleeing accomplices.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, reiterated the Command’s commitment to rid Abia State of criminal elements and urged residents to remain vigilant.
“We are determined to reduce crime in Abia State to the barest minimum. We call on the public to partner with us by reporting suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through our emergency hotlines. Together, we can nip crime in the bud,” CP Isa assured.
