Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has announced that he will not be contesting for any political office in the 2027 general elections.
El-Rufai made this declaration on Wednesday in Kaduna while receiving a group of defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He explained that his renewed political involvement is not fueled by personal ambition but by a commitment to support credible leadership across the country.
The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory revealed that after completing his tenure in 2023, his original intention was to withdraw from partisan politics. However, he said current national developments prompted his return, adding that his focus now is on mentoring young people, women, and reform-minded Nigerians to take active roles in governance.
“I am not contesting for anything. I don’t want to go to the Senate. I am not seeking any position.
“When I finished my tenure as governor, I intended to rest. But given the way things have turned out, I believe we must play our part to bring about better leadership. That is why we are back in politics,” he said.
El-Rufai also urged youths in Kaduna and across Nigeria to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise, stressing that their involvement is essential to transforming the country’s political landscape.
