Former Abia lawmaker, Hon. Obinna Ichita, has accused Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe of attempting to evade accountability through what he described as “political desperation.”
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Ichita, who represented Aba South State Constituency in the Abia House of Assembly from 2019 to 2023, faulted the senator for allegedly masterminding the purported collapse of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abia South, describing it as a calculated move to escape scrutiny.
“Senator Abaribe cannot hide from accountability by reportedly organizing some of his political surrogates and announcing the purported collapse of APGA into ADC in Abia South,” Ichita wrote.
He accused the senator of betraying APGA and the people who gave him “political accommodation” in 2023 after his former party, the PDP, allegedly rejected him due to incompetence and misrepresentation.
“This is not only an act of gross ingratitude towards APGA and the people that gave him victory in 2023, it is also a clear demonstration of political desperation,” Ichita added.
Raising concerns about Abaribe’s new alliances, he queried: “How can we join him in a party with Malam Abubakar et al?! The same Malami and co renditioned and detained Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in spite of judicial pronouncement freeing Kanu. Many people consider the Senator’s action as an act of sabotage!”
Ichita also accused the senator of attempting to hide under the popularity of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, warning that the people would resist such a move.
“Senator Abaribe’s latest attempt to hide under Governor Otti after Mazi Nnamdi Kanu had warned politicians to desist from using his name for political deception shall be rejected by our people,” he said.
Criticizing Abaribe’s 18 years in the Senate, Ichita dismissed his record as underwhelming.
“Procurement of a few Chinese-made 200-watt street lights cannot be a reasonable explanation for the 18 years he has spent in the Senate. Our people have now seen that the whole gara-gara about the struggle for South East is nothing but a mere subterfuge. In Aba, we call it political vuncum – a slangic word for political deception,” he declared.
Ichita’s statement has intensified political debates in Abia South, as many await Senator Abaribe’s response to the allegations.
