Gov. Otti Celebrates 35 Years Of Presbyterian Parish’s Impact, Says Leadership is About Service, Not Wealth

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has reiterated that true leadership is defined by service and stewardship, not by the pursuit of personal wealth or privilege.

Speaking on Sunday, August 17, 2025, during the 35th anniversary celebration of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, St. Peter’s Umungasi Parish, Aba, Governor Otti described the milestone as “35 years of impact, growth, and achievements.”

He stressed that both political and religious leaders must embrace responsibility as a call to serve humanity, not an avenue for personal enrichment.

“Leadership is about stewardship, not acquisition of wealth,” Otti declared. “Anyone seeking leadership must come prepared to serve, not to look for a job.”

The governor also addressed concerns raised by the Parish Minister-in-Charge, Rt. Rev. Ezera Umeh, regarding a lingering land dispute affecting one of the parish’s outstations at Umuogele, Umuocham.

Assuring the church of his administration’s commitment to fairness and justice, Otti directed his Special Assistant on Special Duties to meet with the parish leadership and report back within two weeks.

“I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but I assure you that we will investigate the matter and ensure that truth and justice prevail,” he stated.

Governor Otti lauded the parish for its contributions to spiritual growth, education, and social development in Aba over the last 35 years. He noted that the church had not only raised ministers of the gospel but also impacted lives through its schools and welfare programs.

He assured the leadership and members of continued partnership with government in promoting values that foster faith, morality, and community development.

The anniversary, attended by church leaders, government functionaries, and dignitaries, featured thanksgiving, awards to founding members, and prayers for the governor and the state.
