APGA Candidate Commends INEC On Peaceful Conduct Of Onitsha North Bye-election

The All Progressives Grand Alliance candidate for the Anambra State House of Assembly, Onitsha North Constituency 1, Ifeoma Azikiwe, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for the smooth conduct of Saturday’s bye-election in the area.

Azikiwe made the remarks after casting her vote at Ward 4, Polling Unit 003 in Onitsha. She described the electoral process as largely fair, noting only a few isolated complaints from certain locations that have not yet been verified.

She emphasised that voters were not disenfranchised, explaining that the complaints mainly involved prospective voters for the upcoming November gubernatorial election.

“INEC has been doing very well in the ongoing bye-election. I have not seen anyone complain, though I cannot speak for all 166 polling units. The areas I have visited received materials early, accreditations were conducted smoothly, and overall, I have solid hope that the exercise is proceeding well. There has also been no violence anywhere, and I am hopeful of victory at the end of the process,” Azikiwe said.

The bye-election was conducted to fill the Onitsha North 1 seat in the Anambra State House of Assembly, left vacant following the tragic death of Justice Azuka, who was kidnapped and subsequently killed.
