Police Confirm Abduction Of Two AAUA Staff In Ondo, One Rescued

Police in Ondo State have confirmed the abduction of two staff members of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), by suspected kidnappers on Monday evening.

The victims were reportedly taken from their residence in Akungba-Akoko, located in the Akoko South West Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the incident on Tuesday in Akure, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that one of the victims has already been rescued.

“Yes, two AAUA staff were abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers. However, our men responded swiftly and successfully rescued one of them,” Ayanlade said.

He added that the Commissioner of Police has directed that the rescued staff member be debriefed to gather intelligence that could aid in locating and rescuing the second victim.

According to NAN, one of the abducted individuals was identified as Mr. Omoniyi Eleyinmi, a faculty officer in the Faculty of Education and a member of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).

Eleyinmi was reportedly kidnapped around 7:00 p.m. on Monday from his residence along Supare-Akoko Road in Akungba-Akoko.
