FG Refutes Claims On Sale Of Bauchi Housing Units To NAF

The Federal Ministry of Housing and Regional Development has denied claims that it sold 270 newly built housing units along the Ningi-Kano Road to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

Mr. Nwamadu Herbert, the Ministry’s State Controller, dismissed the allegations during a press briefing on Friday in Bauchi. According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Bauchi State Concerned Citizens Group had protested the supposed sale, calling for justice.

Herbert clarified that while talks with the NAF were ongoing, no ownership transfer had been completed, as the ministry was still awaiting instructions from its headquarters.

“The houses remain under the custody of the ministry,” he emphasized.

He labeled the protesters as “illegal occupants” and stated that provisional allocations were only given to legitimate applicants who met all requirements within 90 days. The ministry’s decision to revoke offers to defaulters on April 1 had been widely publicized, and Herbert challenged any protester to present valid allocation papers.

Meanwhile, the Concerned Citizens Group, led by Mr. Aliyu Ladan, maintained that the alleged sale jeopardized the welfare of Bauchi workers. Ladan described the transaction as “unfortunate and illegitimate,” noting that the houses were part of a 1,000-unit project launched by former President Muhammadu Buhari to address workers’ housing needs.

He appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and halt the deal, warning that the situation could spark unrest. Ladan urged the government to prioritize the rights and welfare of residents over institutional agreements.
