U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday defended the sweeping tariffs his administration has imposed on countries worldwide, declaring that they are revitalizing the U.S. economy.
“Tariffs are making America GREAT & RICH again,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, just hours before an August 1 deadline for trade partners to finalize deals with Washington.
In a typically bold statement, Trump added: “ONE YEAR AGO, AMERICA WAS A DEAD COUNTRY, NOW IT IS THE ‘HOTTEST’ COUNTRY ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD.”
Trump’s remarks come amid global efforts to negotiate trade terms and avoid the economic fallout of the tariffs, which have sparked tensions with several U.S. allies and trade partners.
