ADC Urges Tinubu To Step Out Of Villa, Face Reality Of Insecurity

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to leave the comfort of the Presidential Villa and engage directly with everyday Nigerians to understand the true state of the country’s security.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesperson for the opposition coalition, criticized the president’s reliance on reports from state governors and close aides. He warned that Tinubu is being shielded from the harsh realities facing citizens across the country.

“I believe President Tinubu needs to step out of the Villa, talk to people on the ground, and stop relying on the misleading narrative that insecurity has been reduced,” Abdullahi said. “He’s listening to governors who are more concerned with currying favour than telling the truth.”

His remarks were in response to comments by Daniel Bwala, a media aide to the president, who argued that insecurity in Nigeria has declined under the current administration. Bwala cited improvements in Benue and Plateau states and a decrease in violent activities by groups such as IPOB and unknown gunmen.

“Insecurity has been largely degraded,” Bwala said. “What we see now are criminal acts that occur even in developed countries and are not necessarily a reflection of poor governance.”

Abdullahi, however, disagreed, warning that such claims risk creating a false sense of security for the president.

“I honestly feel sorry for President Tinubu,” he said. “If this is the narrative he hears regularly, then it’s clear he’s living in a bubble.”

He emphasized that many communities across Nigeria remain under siege, with citizens constantly facing threats to their lives and livelihoods.
