Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, has swiftly intervened in the ongoing crisis surrounding the posting of newly recruited teachers in the state, following a surge of complaints over discrepancies between their assigned locations and preferred areas of deployment.
Acting through his Special Adviser on Basic and Secondary Education, Sir Kenechukwu Nwosu, and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, Governor Otti convened an emergency meeting on Tuesday involving key stakeholders in the education sector.
The meeting, held in Umuahia, brought together the Executive Chairman and members of the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), representatives of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and Education Secretaries from the 17 local government areas.
The gathering aimed to address complaints lodged by affected teachers over unfavourable postings and initiate immediate corrective measures. As a result, a Task Force was set up to thoroughly review the deployment process and rectify errors within 72 hours.
The Governor’s intervention is seen as a strong demonstration of his administration’s responsiveness and commitment to improving the education sector. By prioritizing teacher welfare and satisfaction, the state hopes to boost morale and foster a conducive teaching and learning environment.
The Abia State Government expressed optimism that the Task Force’s recommendations will lead to a fair and transparent resolution that reinforces public confidence in the recruitment and posting system.
According to the Office of the Special Adviser on Basic and Secondary Education, the state government remains committed to ensuring that every teacher is optimally placed to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of education in Abia.
